Listen to Your Gut

All too often job seekers focus so much on impressing the person they are interviewing with, that they forget to pay attention to their gut about what they experience during their interviews.  Pay keen attention to any inklings or gut instincts you notice when you interview.  You can actually learn a lot by observing the work environment - How do co-workers speak to each other? Is everyone rushing around like mad and looking stresssed out?  Most importantly, can you see yourself in this environment?  Trust your gut.

This is great advice. When others are “looking” at you, it is important to note whether they look friendly, judgemental, or whether they just look bored. Oftentimes, a panel or group evaluating you is there because they have to be. I have found, after talking with these people, working with them later, that they are far more uncomfortable than I and really are not so savvy when it comes to selecting individuals. I can tell within a week who is who in the office and act accordingly. The problem child remains so, the boss with mommy issues is not doing anyone any favors, just surviving. Etc. etc. on and on. Just pay attn. Everyone shows their colors.
